Themed or play based learning helps children connect skills and concepts to a common main idea. In 4K, during the month of September, our theme is all about apples. Students were asked to make an apple pie using graham crackers, pie filling, whipped cream, and a sprinkle of cinnamon. Did you know cooking also develops fine motor skills including eye hand coordination, finger control, and hand manipulation? When children engage in real‐life and imaginary activities like making an apple pie, play can challenge their thinking, stimulate and support the development of skills, concepts, language acquisition, communication skills, and concentration.
